Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke has died at 29, leaving the NBA community in shock. Clarke was a key player for the Grizzlies, averaging 12.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He was drafted 21st overall in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Gonzaga and signed a four-year, $50 million contract extension with the Grizzlies in 2022. Clarke's death is currently being investigated as a possible overdose, according to NBC Los Angeles. He had just finished his seventh NBA season, all of which he spent with the Grizzlies. Clarke's career had been derailed in recent years by injuries, including a torn Achilles and calf and knee ailments. He played in just six games during the 2023-24 season and missed all but two games this past season. Clarke was arrested in Arkansas in April for improper passing, possession of a controlled substance, fleeing and exceeding the speed limit, and trafficking a controlled substance. The Grizzlies organization has released a statement expressing their shock and sadness at Clarke's passing. The NBA community is mourning the loss of a talented young player who had a bright future ahead of him.
