The Memphis Grizzlies received a B grade from NBA analyst Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report for their offseason moves thus far. ## What happened?
Memphis traded Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray and Santi Aldama to the Dallas Mavericks, acquired Isaiah Stewart from the Detroit Pistons and drafted former Duke star Cameron Boozer with the third overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
And their recent form has been poor, with a last result of Houston Rockets 132-101 Memphis Grizzlies on 2026-04-13. The Grizzlies have lost their last 5 games, with a record of 0W-0D-5L.
Why it matters for Memphis Grizzlies
A two-time All-Star, Morant appeared in 327 regular-season games with the Grizzlies and 22 playoff games, averaging 22.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game in the regular season and 26.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game in the playoffs.
But the Grizzlies won just one postseason series in the Morant era, back in 2022. So it's going to be a while before the Grizzlies make the playoffs again.
What comes next?
However, at least they have a young building block in Boozer, who won the Player of the Year Award last season, averaging 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 55.6% from the field, 39.1% from beyond the arc and 78.9% from the free-throw line. In his Summer League debut against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Boozer put up 15 points, four rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes. Boozer said it felt comfortable, especially with this group, as everyone's playing for each other, playing the right way.
The Grizzlies will be led by Boozer, Zach Edey, Cedric Coward, GG Jackson and Karim López in the post-Morant era. It will be fascinating to see when Memphis returns to the playoffs in the rugged Western Conference. Last result: Houston Rockets 132-101 Memphis Grizzlies on 2026-04-13, and the Grizzlies have lost their last 5 games, with a record of 0W-0D-5L.
