The Memphis Grizzlies have officially parted ways with sports medicine partner OrthoSouth and are reuniting with former partner Campbell Clinic, the team announced on August 28. This move ends a three-season partnership that began in 2023 and was originally set for a decade. The decision comes after two of the most injury-plagued seasons in franchise history, which contributed to a difficult stretch on the court, including a recent five-game skid to end the 2025-26 season.
Injuries defined the Grizzlies' last three seasons. The 2023-24 and 2025-26 campaigns were among the worst for health in team history. A league-high 33 players suited up for Memphis in 2023-24, a number matched again in 2025-26. Key players repeatedly missed time, disrupting the team's rhythm and performance.
The organization had already begun addressing performance issues by hiring Mike Curtis as head of player health and performance in June. Curtis, who spent 17 years at Virginia, led a staff overhaul aimed at improving player durability.
OrthoSouth CEO Kimble Jenkins released a statement praising the organization. "We're proud of the work our physicians and staff delivered during this partnership," Jenkins said. He highlighted the Grizzlies' resilience and the shared commitment to the Memphis community. Jenkins noted OrthoSouth's mission is to help people "move better and live fuller lives" through orthopedic care.
Grizzlies president Jason Wexler also expressed gratitude. "OrthoSouth has been a tremendous partner and a true asset to our organization," Wexler stated. He credited their physicians and staff for bringing professionalism and expertise that enhanced the team's program. Wexler wished them success in making an exceptional patient experience the standard in Memphis.
The Grizzlies are immediately returning to a familiar partner. Campbell Clinic, which served as the team's orthopedics provider from 2001 to 2022, was announced as the new official partner on the same day. This new multiyear deal brings back a piece of franchise history. Campbell Clinic CEO Daniel Shumate called the renewal "incredibly proud" moment that unites two organizations with deep Memphis roots.
"Our physicians have been an integral part of that history," Shumate said, "and we are especially proud to have them once again representing Campbell Clinic alongside the Grizzlies." The partnership aims to provide stability and proven expertise as the team looks to build a healthier future. Fans can track the team's health updates on our injuries page throughout the season.
This strategic shift shows the Grizzlies' urgent focus on player availability. With a core built around star talent, keeping players on the floor is essential for any playoff push. The reunion with Campbell Clinic signals a desire to return to a previously successful model. The organization clearly hopes this change, combined with Mike Curtis's new performance department, will reverse recent injury trends.
